Lotus Turbo Esprit Fact Respository for the 1981-1987 Lotus Turbo Esprit (the Giugiaro cars.)

Custom Lotus parts, guides and facts for the Lotus Turbo Esprit. 2.2 Liter Lotus engine with turbo. Guides for tires, wheels, engine, transmission as well as custom carbon fiber, aluminum and fiberglass parts for the Lotus Turbo Esprit. As well as an adjustable suspension for the front of the car.

Facts for both the US and UK Lotus Turbo Esprit, including spring rates, engine info, parts, modifications, specifications (specs), pictures, users, owners and vital information for the Lotus.

Some information might be valid for non turbo cars and other Esprits as well, some custom parts may be usable on non turbo version of the car and other parts may work on the later Esprits. And suspension adjustment and springs, coilovers coil overs and other stuff.

Turbo Esprits have the 2.2 liter lotus engine and 210 horsepower, we have custom fiberglass, aluminum and carbon fiber parts being developed along with a multitude of facts on the lotus cars.

We will have replacement OEM parts as well as custom unique parts for the esprits made from fiberglass, carbon fiber and aluminum.

We are interested in hearing from other lotus owners including S1 owners, S2 esprit owners and S3 n/a lotuses. We have a variety of owners.

Rear Link Design features include:

  • 6061 alloy construction,
  • Adjustable teflon lined spherical inner and outer bushings (so you will no longer have to deal with oem),
  • left-hand,right-hand rod ends so that simply undoing the jam nuts and rotating the link will adjust length instantly, no removal of parts.
  • Inner and outer bushing adapters to fit the OE attachment points,
  • Spherical link mounting is used to accurately locate the suspension and allow free suspension movement without binding,

We are looking to matched caliper piston areas to OE to maintain brake pressure bias and using 285 to 300mm x 20mm vented rotors on alloy bells. The idea is to design a kit that will fit inside the 15 inch wheel. Believe it or not Tar-ox say they have reasonably priced, 323mm rotor kit that they claim will fit!! They sent me a template to check the wheel against... we'll see?

Adjustable rear upper links

I have been making adjustable length upper rear links for both the inboard brake and outboard brake rear Esprit suspension. This allows full camber adjustment for the rear wheels. They use the factory rubber bushings and can be ordered with the bushings pre-installed or you can supply your own. I have sold some direct but they can be ordered through (http://JAEParts.com)

Short Throw Shifter Conversion

We will be designing a "set" of pieces to replace the OEM linkage assembly to shorten and tighten up the shift linkage on the S3 Esprit. It will likely involve slightly modified bellcranks, sealed bearings and spherical ball-joint links.

Gauge Binnacle

Probably not a kit, put potentially detailed instructions. If there is enough interest I might make a kit. I am going to experiment with updating the binnacle with something looking more like the V8 gauge cluster utilizing the stock gauges. This would probably be a brushed aluminum gauge plate and a fiberglass binnacle that would need to be appointed in leather matching your interior. This is a longer term project that I probably won't even work on until the Winter '04/'05.

Redesigned front suspension

We will be contracting a new lower arm and upper frame adapter as well as new springs to allow the front of the pre-85 Esprits to gain an adjustable height. Hopefully an entire kit would cost less than $500, although you may be required to purchase the shocks separately.
